International Alferov's Foundation for Support of Education and Science (International Alferov's Foundation) is an international non-governmental non-profit organization. It was created in 2008 on the premises of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics under the auspices and with the financial support of Prof. Zhores Alferov, academician, Nobel Prize winner, Vice-President of the Russian Federation Academy of Science.
Academician Zhores Alferov is 2000 Nobel Prize winner in Physics. He is one of the major scientists of the time in the field of semiconductors, his scientific publications are known worldwide including textbooks and monographs. Heterostructural semiconductors, created by Zhores Alferov are integrated in all mobile phones. Without "Alferov laser" we can`t use CD and computer disk drives. His inventions are used in car headlights, traffic lights, and decoders equipment.
Main objectives of the International Alferov's Foundation:
• Supporting research of young scientists;
• Awarding grants to individuals who have made large contribution in the education, science and engineering sphere;
• Providing scholarships and financial aid to gifted pupils, students, teachers, young scientists, widows of outstanding researchers;
• Providing charitable support to HEIs and secondary schools.
The International Alferov's Foundation seeks to contribute to the implementation of the Belarus President’s programme "Young Talents of Belarus". Since 2009 it has awarded 17 grants for pupils, students and PhDs of different Belarus regions (Minsk, Gomel, Mogilev, Vitebsk, Brest, Soligorsk, Grodno, Luban, Chashniki). 14 young scientists and teachers have been awarded with diplomas (for freshness of ideas and art of its implementation), valuable prizes and cash bonuses (maximum 1000$).
