Sport life
In addition to the educational process, high attention is paid to sporting and cultural activity at the University. Much of it organised by individual clubs and societies run by staff and students.
Although BSUIR does not offer courses in arts or sport, there is a strong tradition of achievement in these fields, with many former students going on to gain international standing as artists, performers and athletes.
BSUIR teams are successfully participating in Belarusian Student Games, and some students are members of Belarus National Teams.

Ivan Edeshko, basketball player, Olympic Champion.
The University basket-ball team "RTI-Minsk" had been successfully participating in the USSR and CIS championships for 30 years. Now BSUIR basketball team continues its glorious traditions.
Over 300 masters of sports and 700 candidate masters have graduated from the University for 44 years.
Junior students have obligatory classes in physical training, held on all faculties 4 hours a week. Students can choose sport clubs according to their interests: athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, swimming, freestyle wrestling, orienteering, tourism, bodybuilding, shaping etc. Besides obligatory classes, competitions in 15 events are held between the teams of faculties and students hostels.
All necessary sport facilities are available, including swimming pool, artificial football field, outdoor track, playgrounds, fitness center, ski depot, Recreation Center at Braslav lakes, and Sports Center.
Athletic progress and achievements of students are supervised by the Department of Physical Culture (Professor Nikolai Petrov, Head) and the Inter-University Department of Sport Excellence (Professor Alexander Medved, Head).
The Inter-University Department of Sport Excellence was created in 1976, and trains athletes of high level among students and post-graduates of Belarusian universities and organizes National Student Teams for the largest world competitions.
