Faculty of Information Technologies and Control

The Faculty of Information Technologies and Control is the coeval of the University - it has been opened in 1964 as the Faculty of Automatics and Calculating Machines. Creation of the Faculty was caused by the rapid development of national computer facilities and automation systems that needed the qualified engineering staff. In the course of time the Faculty name has changed, as well as specialities and specializations varied. At the same time the Faculty has always been a prestigious educational and scientific centre, being at the cutting edge of science, engineering and technologies.

The Faculty has 6 chairs:
- Control Systems
- Information Technologies in Automated Systems
- Intellectual Information Technologies
- Computational Methods and Programming
- Theoretical Bases of Electrical Engineering
- Humanities.

The Faculty today is a large educational and scientific centre with more than 1400 students. Educational process at the Faculty is provided by the qualified teaching staff, including 18 Professors and more than 50 Doctors. Professors and lecturers of the Faculty conduct researches on fundamental and applied sciences, and transfer knowledge to students involving them in scientific activity, practical realization of research and development works. Professors of the Faculty read lectures in the universities of the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Austria.

The Faculty prepares specialists in 3 prestigious computer specialities:
- Information Technologies and Control in Technical Systems
- Automated Systems of Information Processing
- Artificial Intelligence

Software and modern information technologies, including Internet/Intranet network technologies are widely used in the educational process. Objects of studying are perspective operational systems, means of development and testing of applications on different platforms, software development and support technologies, methods and algorithms of automated design of industrial robots and robocomplexes, methods and algorithms of data processing in intelligence computer systems.

Training of specialists at the Faculty is carried out in specialized educational and research laboratories equipped with modern technical equipment in the following specializations:
- Information Technologies of Control Systems Design
- Computer Systems of Information Processing and Display
- System Analysis, Decision-Making and Management
- Internet Technologies
- Intellectual Geoinformation Systems
- Intellectual Computer Technologies of Information Protection.

Within the specified directions and specializations students study perspective technologies for creation of control systems for robo complexes and technological processes; distributed control systems on the basis of computer networks; integrated automated control systems; systems of analysis and information support of administrative decisions; means of fast application programming; systems of the speech interface; pattern and text recognition; intellectual computer systems for different purposes.

The Faculty maintains partner relations with leading manufacturers of computer and control systems equipment (IBM, Siemens, Philips, Intel, Motorola, Omron etc.).Graduates of the Faculty are working in state-owned organizations, organizations which signed the agreements on cooperation with the University and also in private organizations, residents of Belarus High Technologies Park - IBA, EPAM Systems, Itransition, Galaktika Corporation, "Mathematic applications" etc.

High level of theoretical and academic background of students in combination with practical skills, abilities and readiness for specialization in narrower areas ensure marketability of the Faculty graduates on the labor market. Graduates have possibility to get high-paid prestigious work in the field of information technologies, modern computer devices and technologies.

Professional portrait of the Faculty graduate:
High academic background in the field of information processing and control.
- Good knowledge of modern information technologies in software and hardware.
- Good knowledge of modern technologies of analysis, developing, implementation and maintenance of complicated system projects.
- Good knowledge of modern simulation methods and mechanisms of decision optimization; can solve complicated system tasks of prognosis, planning, diagnostics, modeling and control.
- Can solve complicated system tasks using perspective computer devices, contemporary data-processing software, robotics and artificial intelligence.
- Can use developing methods and means of new information technologies in business, economics and management.
- Can advance knowledge, in particular by using informational resources and Internet technologies.

Perspectives of the Faculty development are connected with the development of automatic processing information systems, control of different levels and purposes, modern informational technologies, data processing, robotics and artificial intelligence, software and multimedia. The Faculty creates scientific software tools for solving of complicated system tasks in different spheres of science, economy and techniques.
